This is a serious question asked for the sake of an answer, rather than to make a political point.
Apparently the UK owes £890 billion pounds. Who does it owe the money to? Is it to some of the banks that it borrowed money in order to bail them out?
To some of them, because banks are required to hold a certain proportion of gilts in reserves as capital.
ReplyDeleteSome of the rest will be to financial dealers, quite a lot to pension funds, other governments, etc.
Anybody & everybody who've bought government backed bonds I suppose.
