MKs' Election Broadcast
Because the BBC doesn't recognise that Cornwall is a country but treats it as an English county, Mebyon Kernow is not permitted a tv slot for an Election Broadcast, as it doesn't put up a sufficient number of candidates in "the rest of England". It will have candidates in all six Cornish seats.

The Green Green Grass of Home
I was using Google to search for reactions to Adam Price's decision to resign from Westminster at the next election, and came across the Pink Paper's report.
The Pink Paper on line edition has a related story link, headlined Peter Tatchell calls for a Cornwall Parliament. I assume that the link is Celtic nationalism. The story is quite old now, dating from August 7th, but it's new to me, I wasn't aware of it before stumbling upon it today.
Gay campaigner and Green Party parliamentary candidate Peter Tatchell has compared the fight for LGBT rights with the little-known movement for self-rule for Cornwall.
Both the campaigns for gay rights and Cornish rights involve challenging injustice," he said ahead of Cornwall Pride tomorrow.
They are different, but they share the same commitment to extending democratic freedoms and human rights.
Mr Tatchell said he would be carrying both a rainbow flag and the Cornish national flag at the event as well as a placard reading:
"End ban on gay marriage."
Cornwall has a population of just 531,000, but has historically been recognised as one of the "Celtic nations."
Mr Tatchell, the Green Party candidate at the next election in the Oxford East constituency, said he advocated a "Scottish-style Cornish parliament (that) would bring power closer to the people and ensure a stronger focus on the needs and interests of Cornwall."
I hadn't realised that Mr Tatchell was now a leading Green. I had always thought of him as the Labour Candidate in the Bermondsy by-election in one of the most prejudicial campaigns in modern history. This safe Labour seat was lost to the Liberal Democrats and elected Simon Hughes The Only Gay from Colwyn Bay, as he was once called, after a particularly homotrepid campaign.
Mt Tatchell apparently has a moderate chance of being elected as one of the first Green Westminster MP's in next year's elections. I wish him well and I hope that he wins.
Peter Tatchell's support for Cornish self-determination is in line with the Green's attitudes towards Scottish independence. The Scottish Green party is an independent part, that gives some support to the principal of independence for Scotland
It appears that the Greens support self determination for Cornwall and Scotland, but where do they stand in relation to Welsh self determination?
Why is the Green Party in Wales an EnglandandWales organisation, rather than a separate party similar to the Scottish Party?
Why does the Green movement in Wales portray an image of "Good life" colonisation by hippies, interested in preserving everything other than the culture, values and national identity of Wales?
The latest Victory by the eco movement in Wales was to gain planning permission for a Lammas Village in Glandwr. Lammas, being the Anglo Saxon Feast of the Harvest Crop. Celebrated a full 10 weeks before the traditional Welsh Diolchgarwch am y Cynhaeaf (Harvest Thanksgiving).
Whatever the rights or wrongs of the Glandwr development, it would have taken 2 seconds of sensitivity and 5 minutes of research to call the plan Pentre Diolchgarwch rather than the Anglo Saxon's who couldn't give an F*** about Wales Village (which is what Lammas in Wales means)!
Without such sensitivity, the Green cause will never flourish in Wales

Party Leader Wins His Marbles
An insult often thrown at political opponents is that they must have lost their marbles. Reports from Cornwall prove that this is not an accusation that can be made about Mebyon Kernow leader Dick Cole!

Congratulations Dick Cole #2
With Cornwall being a small part of the huge South west of England region (which includes the Rock of Gibraltar) Mebion Kernow wasn't going to make much of a mark in the Euro elections. The good news, however, is that in Cornwall itself MK came ahead of the Labour Party. Well done Dick!

"MK candidate is a twat", says Lib Dem
A lovely little tale about Liberal Democrats dirty campaigning tactics on the BBC's Cornish pages:
From the Oxford Compact Dictionary
twat
/twat, twot/
• noun vulgar slang 1 a woman’s genitals. 2 a stupid or obnoxious person.
Liberal Democrats have apologised after a campaign leaflet was sent out which uses a swear word to describe a Cornish nationalist candidate.
The paperwork was distributed on behalf of Anna Pascoe, Lib Dem candidate for Cornwall Council elections on 4 June.
It calls Mebyon Kernow candidate Stuart Cullimore a greasy-haired twat. He is considering what action to take.
The Lib Dems are investigating how about 40 of the leaflets were printed and distributed around Camborne.
Dick Cole, leader of Mebyon Kernow, which wants self-government for Cornwall, said the attack was "totally unacceptable".
He said Mr Cullimore, who declined to comment, was "very upset and offended".
He said: "We have accepted the apology, but we are pretty angry and concerned how this kind of thing can come out of an official Lib Dem office and be distributed during an election period.

Mebyon Kernow PPB
There was a time, before the average bolg reader was born, when the SNP and Plaid Cymru were not allowed to make Party Political Broadcasts because they didn't represent the whole of the United Kingdom. Both parties overcame the ban by illegaly intercepting official BBC radio broadcasts in order to broadcast themselves. The Beeb, parliament and the public got so peeved by the interceptions that they eventualy allowed both parties the right to make official PPB's.
In England no party is alowed to make an European Party Political Broadcast, unles it stands candidates in at least nine UK constituencies. A situation that causes difficulties for Cornish Nationalists, who dont even have one national representative in the EU parliament, but have to share representation with the south west of England and Gibralta.
MK has made its first ever PPB. It wont be broadcast on the telly because of the racist anti-Cornish rules, but it can be seen on YouTube:

Today is St Piran's Day the Patron Saint of Cornwall.
Here is Dick Cole the Leader of Mebyon Kernow's annual St Piran's day message:
Here is Dick Cole the Leader of Mebyon Kernow's annual St Piran's day message:
St Piran's Day represents a wonderful opportunity for local people to remember what is fantastic about Cornwall and to celebrate its distinct identity and its inclusive traditions.
“As a proud Cornishman, I would encourage everyone to get out there and to do something positive to celebrate Cornwall. But as we celebrate on 5th March, we also need to look ahead and consider how we can work for a better deal for Cornwall all year round."
“2009 is election year and, on 4th June, Cornwall will elect 123 members on the new single tier council. MK opposed the undemocratic imposition of the unitary council on Cornwall, but it will soon be a reality.
“We need it to be a success for the sake of the ordinary people of Cornwall. And that means electing councillors who really do have Cornwall’s best interests at heart.
“On this St Piran’s Day, I appeal to one and all to look afresh at the politics of 21st century Cornwall and support candidates from Mebyon Kernow – the Party for Cornwall.”

Falling out in England?
There appears to be a split in the English Democrat Party.
The split seems to be on two grounds:
A) Some people are uncertain whether the EDP is for Independence for England or for Devolution / Federalism to include England within the UK
B)Others seem to find the EDP as just anti-Scottish rather than pro English.
As disappointing as learning about this split is, it reminds me of the pangs of both the SNP and Plaid Cymru in the 60's. Something that the EDP might learn and reflect on.
If one goes back in history the SNP use to follow Plaid Cymru.
Since 1979 that changed. The SNP took the lead.
The reason is clear, since 1979 Plaid has dallied with different forms of devolution, federalism etc, for fear of losing its 70’s gains. Plaid has avoided the I (shhh - for independence) word. Plaid has been in the doldrums. The SNP has come to the ascendancy by sticking to plain and simple Independence.
The SNP is the government in Scotland, whilst Plaid props up Labour with dreams of what might happen in 2051.
Whatever the academic support for Plaid’s evolution of devolution or the intellectual ideas behind federalism, both are woolly ideas that aren’t made for popular support. People know what independence is. It is a clear cut idea that one is either for or against.
If the EDP wants electoral success it should follow the SNP’s clear cut independence line, rather than Plaid’s maybe, sort of, independence line.
As for the EDP being anti-Scottish (or Welsh)I can only ask, why not?
Welsh, Scottish, Cornish and English nationalists do have things in common, where we can work in common we should do so.
But if you are an English person who thinks that you have been let down, ripped off or otherwise disappointed by your Celtic neighbours, shout out loud about the iniquity. Nobody else will shout out for you, and lying back an thinking of England wont stop us Celts from shouting at you.
Stand up proud for independence for England!

Kernow
The one post wonder that was Nationalist View claimed that the author had to look at this blog to see what was happening in Cornwall. I doubt that that was ever true, however two Cornish national blogs have started posting more often in recent months:
Cornish Democrat. This appears to be a group blog that posts about the political scene in Cornwall and also posts press releases / information from the Celtic League.
Cllr. Dick Cole is the leader of Mebyon Kernow, The Party of Cornwall, currently the third largest party in the country. MK trails behind the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives but beats the Labour Party.
Before their merger with the SDP the old Liberal party depended on the three Celtic Countries to provide its representation in Westminster. There was a time when almost all the Liberal MPs came from Scotland Wales or Cornwall; this is one of the reasons why the Liberals and the Lib Dems have been favourable to devolution in Wales and Scotland. As Cllr Cloe has to point out on a regular basis, the Lib Dems are the cuckoo in the nest in Cornwall - enjoying a lot of support in the country whilst doing nothing to support its national aspirations.
If you haven't done so already, both sites are worth putting in your blog reader or noting as regular places to visit.
On the subject of Cornwall I wonder if any supporter of the Campaign for an English Parliament or the English Democratic Party can enlighten me as to their attitude towards Cornwall. Whenever I post anything in agreement with the CEP or the EDP I can guarantee a response from somebody criticising me for supporting organisations that don't recognise Cornwall's national existence. But I can find nothing on either organisation's websites or on supportive blogs to confirm or deny that this is true.

Congratulations Mebyon Kernow
The SNP was not the only national party to gain more seats than Labour in Thursday's election round. In the Cornish district elections Labour managed to pick up just four seats in comparison to MK's seven. MK actually gained two more seats in Cornwall than UKIP gained in England.
A full account of how Mebyon Kernow faired can be seen in the comments section of my earlier post.

Mebyon Kernow
Wales and Scotland are not the only two Celtic Nations who are taking part in elections at the moment. Elections will also be held in Cornwall, as part of the English local government plebiscite. From what I hear Mebyon Kernow, the The Party for Cornwall is enjoying an exceptionally good campaign with prospects that the party will soon be celebrating its best ever result, Indeed on the parish and town council level MK has already had eleven councillors elected unopposed.
