Burns, Dwynwen and Something Else

I have mentioned that today is Burns Day and St Dwynwen's Day - it is also my Wedding Anniversary. So here is a romantic song, dedicated to Mrs MOF in honour of the occasion, courtesy of Prof Tom Lehrer:

Prof Lehrer is one of the earliest examples of that viral phenomenon that proves that if something is banned it suddenly becomes very, very popular.

Most of Tom Lehrer's work was produced for the US version of TW3 (That Was The Week That Was), the 1960's political satire show that made Sir David Frost a household name on both sides of the pond. Prof Lehrer's popularity in Britain was enhanced when his, now, best known song -Poisoning Pigeons in the Park was banned by the BBC.

The Gaza saga shows, that even after 40+ years, that Aunty still hasn't learned that the best way to give publicity to something she disaproves of is to impose a ban!

  2. Oh, you sentimental fool!

I must say, considering when this was recorded, it might have been meant for me! Thank God I have no MOF in my life to remind me of that.

  6. Thanks for all the congrats:

VM Is this the song you were thinking of?:

    Hello mother, hello father,
Here I am at Camp Grenada.
    Camp is very entertaining,
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining!

I believe that this song was by another leading US satirical singer, Spike Jones, rather than Tom Lehrer. It is a classic though!
