Conference Blogging

I have received an invitation to live blog Plaid Cymru's annual conference.

I am extremely grateful to Plaid for the invitation. I think that Plaid is being very progressive in extending such an invitation, and very brave too, considering some of the things that I have said about Plaid on this blog!

Unfortunately, because of previous family commitments I won't be able to accept the invitation. I hope that most of the other Welsh bloggers who have been asked will be able to make it and I look forward to reading their contributions.

Blogging the conference has been an important part of the presidential campaign in the USA this year. I doubt if blogging Plaid from Aberystwyth will be quite as important, but those things that are big the other side of the pond today have a way of becoming important on this side sooner or later! So Plaid's invitations to blog are probably on the right track.

I am kicking myself that it will be impossible for me to accept Plaid's invitation this year, I'm hoping that it was a genuine invitation and not just an administrative error. I would love to be able to live blog a conference!

I hope that I get an invite next time round, and as I am pushing myself, if the Wales TUC, Welsh Labour, Welsh Conservatives, Welsh Lib Dems, Llais etc feel like making a similar offer ..........!

Llais Gwynedd having an annual conference, now that I'd travel all the way to see!

  2. I can imagine that would be disappointing for you. It would have been a fun challenge!

  3. What a great idea to invite a bunch of barely literate nobodies, who by virtue of their own huge egos, happen to write a blog!

So now such people want to attend party conferences and talk 'live' drivel instead of their usual type of drivel and talk endlessly about how wonderful the 'Welsh blogosphere' is. (God that word is just SO naff!)

    I can't wait!

P.S. Hen Ferchetan - you blog anonymously. Having just read your blog, I can see why!

  4. Meic - Most of what people write on blogs is drivel of course, but there's plenty of people who enjoy reading each other's drivel. If you don't enjoy it then I'm sure no-one will miss you much if you don't bother coming back.

I'd rather read the opinions of random (and yes, anonomous) people than the lifeless trash the Western Mail ships out.

I'm in full agreement with you on the naffness of the word "blogosphere" though, ghastly isn't it!

  5. Meic, the reason why barely literate nobodies, who by virtue of their own huge egos, happen to write a blog carry on is because of the great pleasure we derive from knowing that people, like you, read and comment on what we write.

If you don't like bloggers (another naff word) don't encourage us so.

  6. ell said meic ... these Welsh bloggers are a sanctimonius bunch always patting each other on the back and singing from the usual comfortable public sector hymn book ... not much new or challenging I'm afraid. At least Alwyn still allows nonny comments though unlike a few of the other cowardly custards such as cynical dragon. Oh and I read the Welsh blogs mainly for the comments which are usually better than the oh so boring and predictable posts.

  7. Plaid have observers from other parties, loads of media and many other party reps via the organisations they represent at conference. I would personally have no problems with this as we do not have anything to hide-well not at conference anyway!
