Dwyfor Meirion

Dewi Llwyd has just given an excuse on S4C for not giving much attention to the result in Dwyfor Meirionnydd, because it was not unexpected.

The result in Dwyfor Meirionnydd might actually be the most significant result in Welsh political history in the last 100 years. This may be the first time in 100 years that a party other than Labour has the safest seat in Wales. A significant turning point in Welsh politics that can't be dismissed as "expected"

  1. You do not know what you're talking about. 100 years ago Labour had one seat in Wales and less than 5% of the vote nationwide.

As comparatively recently as 1931 the National Liberal candidate in Flint had the safest seat by some margin.

I know it's early/late (take your pick) but that's no reason to let hyperbole lapse into misinformation.

  2. Grow up normal mouth. If you can't see the significance of the result don't comment on it!

  3. The significance of the result is as follows; 78 years after first contesting the seat and 33 years after first winning it Plaid Cymru has built up an impressive majority that surpasses all others.

Wales-wide, the party's share has not risen by anything like that, or indeed what many in the party were aiming for and have achieved twice before in recent times. Labour's, meanwhile, has hollowed out to its lowest since it became the dominant party in Wales.

That's the big picture. Go read your history before attempting to posit claims of long-term significance that you clearly do not understand.
