Rainbow Rebels' Hospital Shame

Vaughan Roderick from the BBC has had sight of the Labour Party's proposals for an electoral deal with Plaid Cymru. The document reveals that the two sides failed to reach agreement on the subject of hospital reorganisation. This was one of the main planks of Plaid Cymru's election campaign; it was so central and so important that candidates appeared on the ballot papers as "Plaid Cymru - Save xxxxx Hospital".

The fact that the four rebel AM's are willing to sell hospitals such as Llandudno or Withibush down the river in order to defend some outdated socialist ideals and to keep themselves ideologically pure is both disappointing and shameful.

  1. Labour were in the process of considering the very same document on reorganisation that Plaid submitted to their potential rainbow partners.

The Plaid vote apparently put a stop to the negotiations. I'm not sure that's quite the same as 'failing to reach an agreement'.

  2. quite right. Labour hadn't got back to Plaid on their response to a Plaid paper on reconfiguration. Don't judge before you know all the facts. You want to believe the right wing spin on all of this, obviously!

  3. Plaid had submited their proposals to Labour a week and a half ago. the very fact that Labour still hadn't come back to them shows how much interest they really had in the talks

  5. If Labour didn't know that hospital reconfiguration would be central to any deal with Plaid until last Monday, they weren't taking much notice during the election campaign.

  6. If the gang of four argue against the rainbow but then fall in behind it after their arguments are rejected by the majority, all well and good. If they continue their opposition then they should be expelled from the party.

What is the position of the list AMs? They are after all elected purely on a party list and have no personnal mandate whatsoever. If they are expelled from the party then they should lose their Assembly seat and be replaced with the next name on the list.

If the Rainbow fails because of these 4 - it looks like the Lib dems will save them the trouble - then that would be positive for Plaid if the wreaker leftist dinosaurs were kicked out and the party could move away from the failed and outdated dogma of socialism
