Who will phone first?

AS the Lib Dems have now given the Rainbow Coalition the Mick Bates Finger, the Assembly is left with two options a minority government with a stability pact or a minority government without a stability pact. The minority government without a pact could, theoretically, be a Plaid / Tory one, but this is highly unlikely. The only realistic candidate for FM remaining is Numpti Morgan.

As Morgan's life would be made a lot easier if he had a stability pact than if he is without one, and Plaid's influence would still be greater if it offered such a pact rather than refused one, the question is who has benefited most from tonight's shenanigans? Is Plaid's bargaining position strengthened or weakened?

Because of the Rainbow Rebels, I suspect that Plaid's position has been significantly weakened. Labour know that they already have a third of Plaid AM's in the bag without giving any further ground. But can Labour afford the risk of holding out without offering more to Plaid?

The government of Wales could depend on who's nerve folds first; whether Ieuan phones Numpti, or Numpti phones Ieu!

More on the end of the Rainbow:
Chanticleer - Lee's Pages - Geraint - David Peter - Cascittuni - Blamerbell - Cymru 2020 - New Welsh Right - Luke Young - and in my opinion the most poignant comment Llanelli

Its because of the pro coalitionsist or whatever you want to call them that plaid has no deal with Labour. Anyone with any knowledge on negotiations knows that you don't end bilateral agreements without knowing if your prefered option will be implemented fully.

There was no closing statement of negotiations from Labour and they still hadn't had sufficient time to negotiate on health.

Ieuan Wyn could have got a referendum but refused for the sake of power. That is the biggest, and most worrying issue in all of this.
What is the point of having a Nationalist party if they don't push the National question forward?!!!!

This is a point that I have been making since the mid 1980's when Plaid fell in love with Socialism!

The fact is that Plaid with just 25% of Welsh Assembly members and a majority government, could have done comfartably what Alex Salmond is going to have to struggle to do in Scotland with 40% of members and a minority government. Prove that a nationalist government can work and show that if a devolved nationalist government is good an independent national government would be better.

The socialist haridens put nationalism on the back burner, because of their love of the Welsh Labour Myth, they have let Wales down!
